OLIVIA
CARRELL
​Olivia Carrell is a young lyric soprano from Hertfordshire, now based in London. She is currently under the tutelage of Marie McLaughlin. She graduated from the Royal Northern College of Music with 1st Class BA and a Master's in Music with Distinction.
Olivia has enjoyed an exciting year singing internationally. Firstly, she worked alongside Barie Kosky and Emmanual Haïm covering the role of Iris and joining the chorus for Opéra de Lille’s production of Semele. Then, she was accepted to sing at the Dutch National Opera & Ballet premiering an operatic depiction of Orwell’s Animal Farm by Alexander Raskatov which was conducted by Bassam Akiki and directed by Damiano Michieletto. She later joined Haïm's Le Concert D'Astree for their tour of Purcell's The Indian Queen where she covered the role of Spirit and joined the chorus. She will rejoin the company in early 2025 for a new Royal Opera House production of Semele at Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, Paris.

Olivia spent the summer 2023 season with the Buxton Opera Festival where she performed her first Mozart role of Tamiri in his early work Il Re Pastore. The production was directed by Jack Furness and conducted by Adrian Kelly. Olivia received glowing reviews for her portrayal of Tamiri. Bachtrack praised her Tamiri - "her silvery soprano fit the music like a glove".

In summer 2024, Olivia joined Clonter Opera's production of a jukebox Puccini opera named The Butterfly House. Olivia played the lead role where she sung arias from roles such as Mimi, Liù, Magda and Lauretta. Olivia has performed roles such as Blanche de la Force in Poulenc's Dialogue des Carmelites, Dew Fairy in Humperdink's Hansel and Gretel, Helena in Britten's, A Midsummer Night's Dream, and Maria Bertram in Dove's Mansfield Park.
Olivia has worked closely with composers in discovering the fascinating world of contemporary classical music, which resulted in her premiering a one-woman operetta - Growth of the Silk which received glowing reviews at London's Tete-a-Tete festival in August 2019. The performance was deemed "the highlight of the festival for me" by Tete-a-Tete's founder, Bill Bankes-Jones.
